Kenyan Lemongrass Essential Oil — 15mL

KSh 498

100% Pure Essential Oil of Kenyan Cymbopogon citratus

Description

Our Kenyan lemongrass essential oil is extracted from the herb Cymbopogon citratus, grown and harvested locally, through the process of steam distillation. It is then stored in Demijohn or Carboy glass bottles for three to six weeks to let the oil cure— develop an all-round, uniform scent with distinct colour and density.

Getting the Most out of the Oil

Appearance and Terroir

A thin, pale-yellow to amber liquid with a powerful, fresh, and citrusy scent with distinct herbaceous and earthy undertones. It is more "vibrant" and "crisp" than lemon oil due to its grassy notes.

Organic Components of the Oil
Our GCMS analysis show that this Kenyan ecotype is very high in citral. Other components include: geraniol, geranyl acetate and myrcene. GCMS Analysis is available on request for high-volume orders.

Benefits and Applications

The major benefits of the oil include:
—As an antiseptic (it is antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal). This makes it useful in preparation of antiseptic formulations (such as sanitizers) and in acne management (such as toners and face creams) and anti-dandruff shampoos and hair oils
—It acts as a natural astringent, helping to minimize the appearance of pores. This also further helps in acne management and in regulation of sebum production
—Natural Repellent: Its high citral and geraniol content makes it an effective natural deterrent against mosquitoes and other insects. It is therefore a great substitute, when strengthened with other essential oils, for use in insect-repellent formulations
—Aromatherapy: Known for its "invigorating yet grounding" effect. It is widely used to combat mental fatigue, enhance focus, and reduce stress. When diluted in a carrier oil, it is used in massage blends to soothe sore muscles and support circulation.

Directions for Use
Due to its high levels of citral, lemongrass essential oil is a sensitizer. This means that it is likely to cause skin reaction whose extent depends on the level of use and the sensitivity of your skin to citral. Therefore, you must always use the oil when diluted, and never apply it directly on your skin.

For example:

1mL of lemongrass oil (approximately 20-30 drops) in 200mL of refined sunflower oil, OR
1mL in 20mL of surface sanitizer, OR
1mL in 100mL of body wash, shampoo or liquid detergent.

Blending Tips

It is always better to use a blend of essential oils rather than a single one. This is because of the following reasons:
— Blending of different oils create synergy where the benefits of the individual oils are magnified,
— Leads to better scent profiles, while retaining the benefits of the oils
— May reduce the sensitization capacity of the individual oils
— It is a lot more fun.

Our lemongrass essential oil blends well with the following essential oils: eucalyptus citriodora, eucalyptus globulus, eucalyptus grandis, orange, geranium, palmarosa, ginger, tea tree and lavender.

For example, for an uplifting, antiseptic and skin-balancing blend, you could use:

3 Parts Lemongrass eo
1 Part Eucalyptus Citriodora eo
2 Parts Tea Tree eo
3 Parts Orange eo
