Coconut Oil Serum — 120mL

Description

Our  Coconut Oil Serum is handcrafted from the solar fermentation of coconut milk in natural yeast. The process begins with the hand-grating of fresh coconut (Cocos nucifera) kernel, followed by hand-pressing in a traditional Kifumbu (Swahili for woven milk strainer) to extract coconut milk — an emulsion of oil, water, and proteins. The milk is then subjected to cold fermentation, in the presence of sunlight, allowing naturally occurring lactic acid bacteria to initiate phase separation. During fermentation that occurs in at least 3 sunny days, proteins coagulate and the oil gradually separates and rises to the surface as a crystal clear liquid. The oil is then carefully collected, filtered, left to settle to sun-dry any remaining water, and instantly packaged. It is neither refined nor treated with any chemicals.

This slow and arduous process results in the production of our virgin coconut oil, extra in its composition of the more volatile components that are ordinarily lost during cold mechanical pressing, and free from the oxidative and hydrolytic components characteristic of oils extracted by both cold- and hot-mechanical pressing; sealed in its natural resistance to spoilage through rancidification and microbial contamination. The oil retains a high concentration of saturated medium-chain triglycerides, predominantly lauric acid, which exhibits strong antimicrobial properties.

Benefits of Our Coconut Oil Serum

1. Contains natural vitamin E derivatives, mostly tocopherols (specifically α-tocopherol) and tocotrienols. These act as lipid-soluble antioxidants, protecting the oil from oxidative degradation. Additionally, they enhance skin barrier function and may reduce UV-induced skin damage when applied topically
2. Contains Phytosterols such as β-sitosterol (the most abundant), campesterol, stigmasterol. They are structurally similar to cholesterol; hence compete for absorption in the small intestines and therefore assist in lowering the absorption of bad cholesterol when ingested. Topically, they have excellent anti-inflammatory properties, assisting in skin protection and repair.
3. Polyphenols, flavonoids and squalene that possess potent free radical-scavenging abilities. These are especially preserved in our oil and hence more abundant compared to other coconut oil grades. They contribute to the oil’s antioxidant capacity and subtle flavor profile characteristic of our oil.
